Opens the door and peeks in a bit, cautiously eyeing the room from side to side and up and down. Deep breath in and out to really get a feel for the place. Yeah, this is good. This space will do just fine.
Hi there ho there. I am Un and I am an eclectic Pagan and Independent Buddhist. It's a mouthful I know. ;) I am mom to two teenagers affectionately referred to as Boy Person and Girl Person here. I am married to Man Person, and we just celebrated 11 years of wedded bliss. (Well...complicated bliss is maybe a more accurate term lol) We have a doggy and two cats...one of whom is about to bring forth more cats any day now. Sigh.
My family unschools, radically even. I am an artist (sorta) and a writer, but writing is an art so perhaps stating that isn't really necessary. I knit a bit and love to cook. The Girl Person and I do not eat meat, and I lean pretty far vegan. The Man Person and Boy Person are dedicated omnivores, but Man Person is watching his carbs lately.
I've been a Pagan for almost 10 years I suppose. I was raised in the Methodist church that my mother was very involved in. I have 98.9% wonderful memories of the time I spent there. The teachings of Jesus are terrific, but in the end I did not find my connection to the Sacred there. I stumbled on to Paganism and Wicca several different ways randomly within a couple of weeks, and it just found me I guess. I identified with Wicca for the first years, but lately I find that I prefer the Pagan or Eclectic Pagan name instead. It's nothing against Wicca or Wiccans, but it felt to prescribed at times. I also felt that there was so much emphasis on magic and too little focus on worship and connection and service. Just my .02 though.
And then I began feeling a call to Buddhism and looked there. Again, I think it really found me. I could not turn away from the teachings of Buddha. They were what I had been seeking and I felt so challeneged, intrigued, and peaceful with the practice. I've been practicing for almost four years now I think.
I've really carved out my own personal spiritual practice. It's extremely important to me, and I enjoy discussing these things (and other things too) with like minded folks. Nice to meet ya. I've got to run for now. There's a lot room here in my new space, and I've got unpacking and decorating and room blessing to do! ;)
